Living room rug sizes: connect the seating

01 / Living room
Choose a rug that reaches beneath the front legs of your sofa and armchairs. For a generous layout, place the entire seating group on the rug.
- Compact · 120 × 160 cm
- Medium · 200 × 300 cm
- Large · 300 × 400 cm
Measure the full seating arrangement before choosing your size. For detailed furniture layouts, see our living room rug placement guide.
Dining room rug sizes: allow for chair movement

02 / Dining room
Start with your table dimensions, then allow approximately 60–70 cm of rug on every side so chairs stay supported when pulled back.
- 4 seats · 160 × 230 cm
- 6 seats · 200 × 300 cm
- 8–10 seats · 250 × 350 cm+
Seat counts are illustrative. Table dimensions and chair movement determine the final size. See the dining room rug measurement guide for table-specific checks.
Bedroom rug sizes for queen and king beds

03 / Bedroom
Position the rug beneath the bed with comfortable coverage on both sides and beyond the foot. Check the bed frame dimensions as well as the mattress.
- Single · 160 × 230 cm
- Queen · 200 × 300 cm
- King · 250 × 350 cm
Mark the outline on the floor to check the visible rug around your bed. Compare the bedroom rug placement layouts before choosing.
Round rug sizes: measure the diameter

04 / Round rugs
For a round dining table, add approximately 60–70 cm on each side of the tabletop. Check that chairs remain on the rug when pulled out.
- Ø 200 cm · 2 m
- Ø 300 cm · 3 m
- Ø 400 cm · 4 m
Round sizes refer to the diameter, measured across the centre.

Use these planning dimensions as starting points, then check the exact size options on the product page. A 200 × 300 cm rectangle is the same footprint as 300 × 200 cm rotated; the design direction may still matter. Centimetres divided by 100 give metres.

Rug size questions answered
What size rug should I test under a king or queen bed?
Use 200 × 300 cm as a planning outline for a queen bed and 250 × 350 cm for a king bed. Measure the actual bed frame, not only the mattress, and check the visible rug beside and beyond it. Furniture position and room clearance determine whether either outline fits.
Are 200 × 300 cm and 300 × 200 cm rugs the same size?
Yes. Both measure 2 × 3 metres and cover the same rectangular area, rotated. Check the product image and pattern direction before deciding how to orient the rug.
What size rug works best in a living room?
A 200 × 300 cm rug is a useful starting point for a medium seating group. Check that it reaches beneath the front legs of the sofa and chairs; larger arrangements may need 300 × 400 cm or more.
How much rug should extend beyond a dining table?
Allow approximately 60–70 cm on each side as a starting point. Pull the chairs back as you would when sitting down, and check that their legs remain on the rug.
Does a bedroom rug need to cover the entire bed?
No. A rug can sit beneath the lower part of the bed, provided it gives comfortable coverage on both sides and beyond the foot. Check your bed frame and room proportions.
What if I am between two rug sizes?
Mark both outlines on the floor and compare furniture placement and walking space. Check another standard dimension before deciding. For large projects, quantities or dimensions that standard rugs cannot cover, review our custom rug project options.
